Certainly created for <\/span>children<\/b>, the story can seem somewhat dark. <\/span>Virginia Woolf<\/b> commented on this work and its sequel <\/span>“The two Alices are not books for children, they are books to become children”.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Alice in Wonderland<\/span><\/i> is full of <\/span>fantasy<\/b>. When we stop to reflect on the phrases, and dialogues of the characters, we can discover a <\/span>world <\/b>full of teachings and situations that are worth reviewing.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Play<\/b><\/h2>\n

Alice in Wonder<\/span><\/em>land<\/em> was published in 1865. And it is classified as a children’s novel, within the genre Nonsense<\/b>, fantastic literature. Some have also classified it as surreal<\/b>. Lewis was a visionary<\/strong>, as it would take many years to create the surrealist style<\/em>. And it is that, as the story unfolds, several pictures of surrealist art could easily be composed with the characters and settings.<\/p>\n

The original name of the novel was <\/span>\u00a8The Underground Adventures of Alicia\u00a8<\/span><\/i>. As the book was published, it was shortened to its current name. <\/span>Alice <\/b>had a second part, which was not as famous as the first part, <\/span>Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There<\/span><\/i>, published in 1871.<\/span><\/p>\n

This story is inspired by <\/span>Alice Liddell<\/b>, a girl close to Lewis. During a long and tedious journey down the <\/span>River Thames<\/b>, the girl and her sisters asked Lewis to tell them a story. Alice<\/strong> especially was drawn to the story<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Author<\/b><\/h2>\n

Lewis Carroll, whose real name was <\/span>Charles Lutwidge Dodgson<\/b>, was a British writer, logician, mathematician, and photographer. Born in 1832. He wrote poetry and some short stories that were not so successful.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lewis befriends the family of the new dean of <\/span>Oxford<\/b>, where Lewis taught mathematics. A strong friendship developed with <\/span>Henry Liddell’s<\/b> wife and their three daughters. One of them, <\/span>Alice<\/b>, was always attentive to Lewis’s stories. The author gives the work <\/span>“Alicia’s Underground Adventures”<\/span><\/i> to Alice, who was 10 years old. Lewis always made it clear that the <\/span>Alice <\/b>in his story was not inspired by any <\/span>real-life<\/span><\/i> character.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lewis <\/span><\/i>caused <\/span>controversy <\/b>then and even today, because of his role as a <\/span>photographer<\/b>. Carroll can be considered one of the fathers of <\/span>contemporary fine art photography<\/span><\/i>. Lewis used to photograph girls, in somewhat unusual poses and situations, in some of the photographs the girls are naked. Fo<\/span>r the <\/span>Victorian <\/b>era, it is important to note that girls were seen as the image of <\/span>innocence<\/b>. However, today <\/span>Lewis <\/span><\/i>can be accused of being a <\/span>pedophile<\/b>. He created around <\/span>3,000 photographs<\/span><\/i>, many have been intentionally destroyed and others have not withstood time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alice in Wonderland<\/b> is full of <\/span>extraordinary <\/b>phrases, loaded with messages that in some scenes can be phrases without coherence. However, they carry a thread that makes this a sweetener, easy to feel trapped.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All characters are said to be inspired by real-life people. <\/span>Lewis <\/span><\/i>was a <\/span>stutterer<\/b>, and the character of the <\/span>Dodo <\/b>in the play stutters as well, which is why the <\/span>Dodo <\/b>is said to be a representation of himself.<\/span><\/p>\n

The madness of the <\/span>Hatter <\/b>is explained by the fact that, in <\/span>Victorian <\/span><\/i>times, the artisans of the hats glued the suede of the hats using compounds that contained <\/span>mercury<\/b>, in addition to making them in closed workshops. The effects of <\/span>mercury <\/b>on the nervous system of humans are known, hence the “madness” of this character.<\/span><\/p>\n

The March Hare<\/b>, the character who is somewhat <\/span>crazy<\/span><\/i>, and drinks tea with <\/span>the Hatte<\/b>r, has its origin in the fact that, during <\/span>March<\/b>, <\/span>European hares<\/span><\/i> tend to exhibit strange behavior due to the beginning of the <\/span>mating <\/b>season.<\/span><\/p>\n
