Latin languages are Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Romanian. Spoken areas in the European continent are as follows;

The spread of Latin languages originating from the Italian peninsula to the world took place in two different periods;

1- The Age of Roman Empire

2- The Age of Discovery

-With the invasion and conquest movements of the Roman Empire between 150 BC and 300 AD, Latin, which went outside the Italian peninsula, had the opportunity to spread to the Iberian peninsula and today’s France.

– The multinational Roman Empire both affected other languages and differentiated thanks to the languages of the peoples in the lands it conquered.

– When the Romans conquered a region, they first established fortresses-cities in that region, made military shelters, and appointed Roman rulers to their heads. These Roman rulers were responsible for applying the Roman culture and system to the region. Therefore, they established academies in their cities in accordance with the Roman education system. The language of instruction in these academies was Latin. The local wealthy of the region would send their children to these Roman academies in order to gain prestige and promotion and ask them to grow up as a Roman. In this way, Roman culture and language were gradually dominating the region.

– On the other hand, Italians underwent a change of language with the tribal migration in the 4th century and the seizure of the Southern islands by the Arabs in the eighth-tenth century. Their language, which was Latin, was increasingly similar to today’s Italian.

– Romanians, who are the most distant relatives of Latin languages in Europe, are the descendants of the Roman soldiers who came to the region. – Latin languages, which spread to the American continent with geographical discoveries, eliminated the local languages in all South America and Mexico and formed a Hispanic culture by combining with the indigenous culture.
