INTRODUCTION TO UNDERWATER WORLD: SCUBA DIVING

For centuries, people have practiced breathing diving in various parts of the world. For the first time at least 5,000 years ago, humans met the ocean bottoms and came to the present state with their mind and desire to explore. We’ve always wanted to explore the seas. Scuba diving gives us an opportunity to be in that world, even if it’s just for a defined quantity of time. Equipped diving, aka scuba diving, has become an underwater sports branch that has come to this day.

Equipped diving is a type of diving in which special equipment is used to breathe underwater. Scuba -Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus- consists of the initials of the words. The equipped diving equipment we use today is based on a system called “Aqualungs”, which Emile Gagnan and captain Jacques Cousteau developed in 1943. From this date to the present day, it has undergone few changes and has become its present form.

Scuba diving is a very easy sport and hobby to love. The convenience provided by the development of underwater technologies has made it even easier and possible for us to explore underwater. Equipment equipped before entering the water allows us to move quite comfortably. The equipments we use underwater are a gas tank, mask, pallet, weight, diving suit. This equipment is usually provided to you on the diving boat or on the central side. Among other gear used in diving is the buoyancy control device (BCD), basically an inflatable jacket that controls your buoyancy by adding or releasing air. The air that is in those tanks is compressed air as we know it outside: parts of nitrogen, oxygen, and some other gases as well. Frequently people erroneously believe that the air in the tanks is pure oxygen, but that would only be harmful to the divers. Because of the nitrogen in the compressed air, divers need to be very careful when diving to greater depths, as nitrogen narcosis can occur, which has the same effect as excessive alcohol. This is conveniently figured out by going back up to not-so-deep open water spots.

In order to be able to scuba diving, it is necessary to either be trained. But there are opportunities to experience the underwater world through exploration or trial dives without training. This sport also connects people. We are never alone underwater, it is legally right for two divers with at least two stars to dive. It brings us closer to each other, both because it is done collectively and because we have to trust each other underwater. People can build beautiful bonds with this activity, easily acquire friendships.

Also, a scuba diving workout is valuable for not only as a practicable way of physical exercise but also for mental and emotional well-being. The peace, calmness, and grace of the underwater world and its wildlife, encourage positiveness and give real delight to those who experience them.  Imagine that you are passing through fish, corals, and everywhere is pure blue, and you are only hearing your breathe. It is an amazing way to discover. Diving is a great way to strengthen and build up your body, burn calories and boost your serotonin levels, ultimately making it both a rewarding, enjoyable way to keep fit and happy. It is a safe and funny sport and also an activity with its rules.
