How many of us use trigonometry today? Are you trying to figure out what the solution to a new equation is? Solving logarithms?
The biggest connection I have with math and numbers at this point of my life is when the pay check arrives and it’s time to figure out the budget for the month. Recently I started taking a bit more of an interest in math and of course the symbolic meaning of numbers popped up.
Numerology – the study of numbers. What is it exactly? Well, according to numerology every number has its own meaning. It is the study of the spiritual meaning of numbers. It assigns a number to each letter of the alphabet in order to derive a single number for your name. This number is your Destiny number. Your date of birth reduced to a single number is your Life Path number. These two numbers form the foundation of your personal traits. When combined you derive your Soul Purpose number. The study itself draws meaning from different numbers, number combinations, letters, and symbols in your life. The founder of numerology is considered to be the Greek mathematician Pythagoras as he developed the system of numerology most used today, but since then numerology has developed a number of methods. Pythagoras believed that all life can be understood through the frequencies of numbers and discovered the correlation to life existing in nature to be related within the vibrations of numbers. He used this interconnection to transcend the meaning of life. As it has been used around the globe, the methods developed differ from the geolocation it has been studied on, and as such we have Gematria, Chaldean numerology, Egyptian, Chinese or Hindu numerology methods.

Chaldean numerology is the oldest form, developed by the Babylonians between 4000 and 3000 BC. Calculations focus on numbers 1 to 8, which are mundane numbers, while the number 9 is a holy number and therefore not used in calculations.
Gematria is from the ancient Jewish tradition of the mystical interpretation of the Holy Bible. It assigns numbers to the Jewish alphabet. When translated into the English alphabet, the numbering is done 1 to 7 and back to 1 twice, as shown below.
All these brilliant cultures developed their own kind of numerology, following similar numerological principles, but using different methods of calculation.
In general, numerology interprets numbers as a manifestation of and explanation for universal order. It lets you find a relationship between microcosm and macrocosm. In other words, it can explain what happens in the material world through the application of cosmic laws of the universe.
Numbers, therefore, show us the universal law, “As Above, so Below; As Below, so Above”.
