Like many traditions that have survived until today, the meaning of Thanksgiving has changed.  Thanksgiving is considered the Day of Mourning among American natives. According to a rumor, the tribe of Wampanoag (en), the native of the northeastern corner of the USA, known today as the New England geographical region, observed that the British settlers (Pilgrims) who first set foot on the American continent in Plymouth in 1621, did not get used to the geography of the region. He found that they struggled with hunger because of their inability to produce the crops they were accustomed to from Europe. The tribe pityed the plight of the new settlers and shared their own game and crops with benevolence and hospitality. This celebration, which emerged from the peaceful union of the two communities, was an inspiration and model for future Thanksgiving celebrations.
