What is ClubHouse? Have you heard about it yet? ClubHouse is a fairly new app that everyone seems to be talking about. It was officially launched in 2020 by Paul Davison and Rohan Seth, during the app’s beta trial state (both guys have been staying pretty calm and not all out there doing press). Only a couple of people were able to use just to try it out and well, it worked.
The only way at the moment to get into the app is to get an invitation from someone who is already inside the app. Each new member gets 1 or 2 invitations to give away when she/he’s new on it.
What is it?
The app is now working as a networking tool for many entrepreneurs and business people all over the world. It functions purely on audio and you get to join different “rooms” where you can listen or participate in a conversation with a different number of people at the same time.
You can get invited to the stage by one of the moderators and everyone in the room will be able to listen to you. The app has the “follow” feature, where you can keep on listening to the people that you want when they are talking in a particular room. You get to do that by clicking on the little bell next to the follow button.
There are nearly 3,000,000 users by now on the platform and it keeps growing. It’s important to mention that it is only available for iOS (iPhone) users at the moment, but the CEO of the company wants to launch it for everyone and their phone systems, like Android as soon as possible. They apparently want to keep it like that for a while until they are sure that the app is good enough to be open publicly and available to everyone.
The “Exclusivity” Element
Now that we know that not everyone can easily have access to it, this situation has created a particular “aura” about the app that seems to be drawing a lot of people’s attention. According to the founders, the app was never meant to be exclusive, but rather they wanted it to perform well when the right time came and it was openly used by anyone who wanted it.
Many people are making their bets and future predictions for the app. Some say it’s the next big thing and others say that it gets boring once people start to talk too much about their professional accomplishments in there. Twitter already launched the trial for their “Twitter Spaces”.
In my personal experience, I have learnt a lot of things that I didn’t know before. It’s all about filtering the information and the people that you listen to, just like one should do on any other platform.
Twitter Spaces
Twitter spaces are basically ClubHouse but with a slightly different design and added features. Other apps like Instagram, are planning on launching a similar thing after seeing the massive success ClubHouse is having without even having it accessible to everyone. Something very similar to what happened with Snapchat: after seeing its massive success, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, etc. added the “stories” feature to their products as well.
One of the founders of the app Paul Davison recently gave an interview for CNBC, and when he was asked about what he thought of the fact that everyone was starting to copy his creation, he answered by saying that focusing is the most important thing for them at the moment (focusing only on the audio feature) and that he knows things will work out great.
What do you think it’s going to happen with this app? Would you like to try it out? We will always try to keep finding ways to communicate with each other, especially now that we all seem to be separated for many reasons. Leave me a comment and tell me what you think about the app and its future!
