Basic laws of nature, which seem simple to most of us today, were not as easy to accept as they are today in the first years of their discovery. To say that the Earth is not at the center of the universe, to say that the Earth revolves around the Sun, cost people’s lives at that time. In such difficult conditions, the light of science illuminated the way of people and showed them the way. We recommend you to watch movies about the lives of 4 scientists who had to walk on these difficult ways!

1.Radioactive

In this movie, we take a closer look at the life of a Polish-born physicist and chemist genius whose real name is Marie Skolodowska Curie. Curie, who was excluded from the society because of her different religious views and had to change her name, discovered that a radioactive element, which we know today as uranium, decayed into radium. But this discovery did not come so easily. She lost her husband ,Pierre Curie, and was excluded from the scientific community because she was a woman. But despite all these difficulties, she managed to become the only scientist who has Nobel Prize in 2 fields (physics and chemistry), which is still valid. We are sure that your eyes will fill with tears when you hear the her speech at the Stockholm City Hall during the Nobel Prize Ceremony.

2.Agora

Let’s go back to BC and go to Alexandria, which is located within the borders of today’s Egypt. In its time, it was the capital of science and a home of science with thousands of scrolls and books. At that time, there was a young girl named Hypatia who couldn’t take her eyes off the sky while everyone was looking at the ground. Even today, we remember her name with the revolutions she made in natural sciences such as physics, maths and philosophy. Hypatia, with her measurements, explained that the Earth and other planets do not revolve around the sun in circular, but elliptical orbits. Of course, no success went unpunished, and this discovery of hypatia was denied by bigoted people and even Hypatia was punished. The library of Alexandria, which was the largest library of its time, was also the victim of the clashes; some artifacts were kidnapped, some were destroyed by burning. Unfortunately, nothing has survived from this huge library.

3.Einstein and Eddington

We see on the stage two scientists who devoted their lives to science during the most crucial times of the World War Second. These geniuses whose countries fought on different fronts are Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington and Albert Einstein. Although the World is at war, the event that crossed the paths of these two geniuses is the general theory of relativity, which we are all at least familiar with. General relativity briefly is a gravitational law that is explained in the form of an object with a large mass in space bending the space. After putting forward Einstein’s famous theory, the theory also needs to be proven experimentally. During this mission, you will be involved in the adventures of Sir Eddington and you will be closely witness the communication between the two geniuses.

4.The Theory of Everything

Another genius we have recently lost, Hawking is perhaps the most successful theoretical physicist in human history. In the movie, which is about the life of the famous physicist, Hawking, who is at the forefront with his successful life, becomes more difficult as a result of the illness he learned by an unfortunate accident. Despite all the negativities, Hawking, who clings to life, never gives up on living, learning and teaching. Thanks to his perseverance, we are able to take more confident steps in our research on the universe today.
