Who is Sherlock Holmes?

When it comes to crime fiction, Sherlock Holmes is the first name that appears in mind. Sherlock is one of the most cult characters not only in the history of literature, but also in the world of cinema and television. Therefore, he is beyond being a fictional character. Let’s have a look at the writer of Sherlock Holmes.

Who Is Arthur Conan Doyle?

Arthur Conan Doyle

Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle, a British writer, and physician, wrote A Study in Scarlet in 1887. He was so young and impressed by his professor Doctor Joseph Bell. Because Bell could diagnose patients who came to his practice by merely looking, Edgar Allan Poe also influenced him with another fictional character Auguste Dupin. A Study in Scarlet did not sell well, and it faded away (to be remembered later). But then, Doyle encouraged to write again, and the series continued.

The Character Who Passed His Writer: Sherlock Holmes

If you see someone sitting with a pipe in his mouth, a strange plaid hat, and a long coat, you will firstly say, “Oh Sherlock Holmes!”. Holmes is a unique character with his outward appearance and unique attitude and movements. He enlightens the detective cases with his sharp intelligence. To be honest, he sharpens your brain by saying, “You see, but you do not observe it.”

While he is smoking, you can see him because he does not care about his health; the only thing that he cares “criminal case.” He goes crazy when there is no crime to solve. However, he also knows how to calm himself: playing the violin!

He is also quite picky about his customers. For instance, he prefers an interesting case brought by a poor customer to an ordinary problem brought by a wealthy person.

Arthur Conan Doyle was bored after two years of writing the popular stories, and he decided to kill Sherlock in The Final Problem.

Many actors gave life to Sherlock Holmes around the world, but the TV series starring Benedict Cumberbatch had a considerable impact.

Quates from Holmes

“Where there is no imagination, there is no horror.”

“Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself, but talent instantly recognizes genius.

“Violence does, in truth, recoil upon the violent, and the schemer falls into the pit which he digs for another.”

“You see but you do not observe.”
