Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle, a British writer, and physician, wrote A Study in Scarlet in 1887. He was so young and impressed by his professor Doctor Joseph Bell. Because Bell could diagnose patients who came to his practice by merely looking, Edgar Allan Poe also influenced him with another fictional character Auguste Dupin. A Study in Scarlet did not sell well, and it faded away (to be remembered later). But then, Doyle encouraged to write again, and the series continued.

If you see someone sitting with a pipe in his mouth, a strange plaid hat, and a long coat, you will firstly say, “Oh Sherlock Holmes!”.
