What is decompression, is it dangerous?

A bend or a decompression occurs as a result of the formation of gas bubbles in the body due to the transition from a high-pressure region to a low-pressure region in a short time. If the diver does not devote enough time to disposing of extra gases in the body when it begins to surface, that is, if it rises rapidly, gas bubbles occur in the tissues. People who get bends, that is decompression, are urgently taken to the pressure rooms. Here again, atmospheric pressure is given at the depth at which it imposed the hit. After that, this pressure is gradually reduced. Another method is that the person who gets bends the profit is taken again to the same depth. Divers must climb to the surface of the water more slowly and gradually to avoid being hit. They should even wait for a little when he gets to some depths. Divers are given this training. Once the rules of diving are followed, there will be no problems.

How do divers communicate with each other underwater?

Being able to communicate effectively underwater is one of the requirements of a safe dive. The most appropriate and sure communication method among divers is the use of hand signals. These signs should be known to all divers and should be used correctly and clearly. In some cases, a team-specific diving sign may be used. Special signs that are intended to be used must be specified in the pre-dive briefing and make sure that their meaning is understood by all divers. All divers must respond to signs to understand that there is or is not a problem. A diver who does not respond to signs should be considered to have a problem and should act accordingly. Signs must be clear so that they are not left open to interpretation. Clear and unclear or modified signs can cause confusion in underwater reporting and have dangerous consequences.

Who cannot dive?

Some health problems, unfortunately, do not allow us to explore the deep seas. Those patients with disorders of the heart and circulatory system with high cholesterol, emphysema, tuberculosis similarly, lung disease, diabetes, pneumonia, Addison’s disease, insulin-dependent, or the risk of hypoglycaemia, haemophilia, lymphoma (cancer), leukaemia, acute anaemia patients, acute blockage of the digestive system/narrowing in patients with (food pipe, stomach, intestine), peptic ulcer disease, functional bowel disease, gall stones, kidney stones in patients with aneurysm, patients with reflux further, people with overweight problems, hyperthyroidism patients are not recommended to dive. As for pregnancy, we can say that discussions are still ongoing. For those at similar risk of haemophilia bleeding, underwater is quite risky.  The fact that you do not carry any of these diseases does not make you suitable for diving. In order to determine whether you are suitable for diving, it is necessary to obtain a medical report from the institutions that have been authorized and to periodically update the reports.

Should I get any diving equipment before I start diving?

Mainly, called ABC; mask, pallet and snorkel, tube, regulator, balance vest (BCD), diving suit are necessary equipment for scuba diving. In addition to such things, there are many additional materials such as diving booties, diving knives, diving lanterns, diving computers. Most dive centres supply this equipment to candidates for diving training. For this reason, it is not mandatory for a person who wants to receive entry-level diving training to buy equipment. No one tries not to dive because they do not bring equipment with them. You can be relaxed. For the comfort of the diver, it is recommended that people who progress in the sport of diving and plan to progress acquire their own equipment by selecting the appropriate equipment for them.

What is the “Martini Effect”?

It is also known as nitrogen narcosis or depth intoxication. It is a feeling of drunkenness caused by the effect of nitrogen gas inhaled under high pressure on the nervous system, which can lead to loss of consciousness. A diver 30m below the water breathes air 4 times denser than on the surface of the sea. Organically, the amount of nitrogen in this dense air is also four times higher than normal. Nitrogen is absorbed into adipose tissue in higher amounts than other tissues. Because the ratio of fat in the brain and all nervous system tissues is huge, when more nitrogen is inhaled than usual, the nervous system fills with this inert gas and becomes unable to perform its smooth functions. Signs of depth intoxication usually manifest themselves below 30 meters and gradually become heavier as they descend to depths. As the depth decreases, the signs end without any side effects or permanent damage. Another name for this case is the Martini effect.
