Think Pink, Swim Pink: Laguna Rosa de Torrevieja

Results of Torrevieja lake

Colours are the major parts of unique aestheticism. Generally water and colour relation bases on blue-white for bare eyes. It is the reflection of the sky; water has always known as being transparent. What if  all of lakes or seas don’t reflect transparency? Some kind of salty lakes present the immortal view for mortal eyes. Perhaps, Pink lakes equally; that huge liquified cotton candy sugar visually, of course we can not say it for the quite salty taste.

What make those lakes unique and show off ?

The pink hue was caused by microscopic algae producing beta carotene, which diminished as the salt levels fell, temperature fluctuations, density of algae (pigmentation), halophilic bacteria in the salt crusts, microorganisms of which membrane fully covered by carotene. On the other hand,  algae have various structures that produce oxygen for photosynthesis or changing colour. These biologic organisms live close to surface. They provide oxygen, sugar, intensity of salt which can account for 50- 80% for the lake.

When thinking or exploring deeply, world is a really surprising planet. Pink lakes are not just for dreams but also for our real life. We are probably just wondering whether or not we can swim in those pink lakes or how many pink lakes explore all around the world?

Pink lakes are just salty lakes that are really salty. There is no harm for human skin, and Dunellia Salina algae are totally harmless too. By the way, there is one more safety barrier for reaching those cotton candy pink lakes: respect for the nature. Pink lakes are not for treatment or natural spa; humans should protect and keep the nature unspoiled. Although this natural beauty is a source of income for local communities, salt is really big resource for attracting a decent amount of tourists not only for exploration but also for natural bathes (despite the fact that it is forbidden).

The other point is “How many?”

Recent researches show us 34 pink salty lakes have explored till now. The last exploration is in Oman but pink lake is not new to this place as per the statement mentioned in their 15 October 2018 article that declares “Pink Lakes began to reappear“. One of the most attractive one is “Torrevieja Pink Lake or Laguna Salada de Torrevieja”. This strawberry-cream lake takes its name by the city Torrevieja (Spain).

This lake has one more important difference from the others : the “density of black mud”. This characteristics makes Laguna Salada de Torrevieja more attractive because black mud has therapeutic properties and tourists make their own body or facial mask. On the other hand, transportation is also very complicated but don’t forget beautiful things deserve effort! When you are reaching the water, you can run into some signs of prohibition: one of which indicated that it is forbidden to enter the water.

HOW TO ARRIVE TO THE TORREVIEJA PINK LAKE

This is not a place where you get through the bus. There are no shuttle buses taking tourists to this place. To get there, you might need a car or other kind of transports.
